K told me that she has been forwarded an email from someone in Iraq describing what the Americans are doig to their neighbours and friends. It's graphic and horrific. I said I have received that kind of email from Palestinians describing what Israelis are doing right now to people around them. I said it as a way to dismiss the email. I said it to indicate that it is a tactic and may be propaganda. I said that because I believe that. But at the same time, I also know that if my neighbours or frineds were being murdered by an occupying force, I would be trying to let people know, writing things on the internet and elsewhere. What else can an individual do? So why am I cynical about these emails?
Because honestly I don't want to know.

NBAll diary entries are based on my own perception of a situation or event. They are subjective reflections and often written well after the fact. Other people I mention will have their own version of the events I describe and might disagree with their portrayal. This project is not about libelling people or stigmatising them but about recording my own perceptions of racism as a person sensitized to racism, both as a victim of racism and as a racist.
