Gosh, I had an upsetting moment in the backyard today. Our neighbor's cat came to the fence to say 'hello' and ended up almost dying. He wears a little red collar with a bell on it so that he scares away any birds or other critters while outside, and the collar got snagged on a piece of chain-link fence.
The poor little cat had himself all twisted and inside out, and every move he made caused the collar to tighten more. It was horrible. He couldn't breathe and his little pink tongue was hanging out to the side.
It all happened so fast, and I was debating climbing our rickety old fence, or grabbing the baby and running around the long way. I don't know for sure how long he struggled, maybe 15 seconds, but he finally managed to free himself without my intervention.
I was out front when his owner came home so I let him know what happened, and suggested that maybe he loosen the collar so that it would just slip off if he ever found himself tangled somewhere again. My neighbor thanked me, although I was hesitant to tell him for fear of sounding anything other than concerned for the cat's well-being...you know...apparently I came across okay, thank goodness.
This morning I went to the city to have a new windshield installed on the truck for our inspection next week. It wouldn't have passed without it. Bummer, we got the crack the weekend we bought the truck and it finally managed to spread into a perfect circle. It wasn't nearly as costly as we expected, so that was a bonus.
And, in other news...it seems as there isn't going to be terrible news on the income tax this year. Possibly even a refund.....be still my beating heart.....I got a call from the tax lady this afternoon, and she hadn't finished all the tallies, but she said it looks good.
Ty and I spent all afternoon outside cleaning the yard. I'm still not completely done, but my compost bin is full again, so I'll have to wait until next week to finish. Our backyard composter has been busy preparing some beautiful dark rich earth for us....I stirred it today and all the red wigglers came up to say 'hello'.
The backyard is full of gopher holes. The damn dogs! Bandit has been digging up all sorts of hidden treasures that he buried before the ground froze last Fall. Tennis balls, bones, chew toys.....I almost rolled my ankle in a dog hole this afternoon. THAT would have been great!
I need to seed my lawn, but I'm not sure if I have to wait until after the last frost or not...does anyone know? Our last frost isn't until May 24th...I'd like to see some green grass before then. The dogs have really made a mess, so the sooner I can seed, the better.
Big Son had potted some sunflower seeds for us to transplant next month. I hope they take this year. Last year I screwed up and mowed over them. Oops...I'll be more careful this year, I've already promised them.
We are in for a nice weekend. Warm temperatures and sunlight....I can't wait.
I guess that's all for now.
Thanks for checking in.
