It is what we can make of the mess we have made of things.

8 Sep 2006 - Butterflies, bumbles, and spiders...OH! MY!
IN an attempt to stay upbeat during another minor setback, I am retreating to my fantasyland, the garden! ( the pump on my well needs replaced and we have been without water for one week. it will be worked on sometime next week. i refuse to get down although yesterday i almost did! *smile* and so it goes another week in paradise! thoughts of apartment living are attempting to entice this country mouse...errrrrrr, country frog! )
-----------

Yesterday before the sun warmed and dried the grasses, the field was filled with nests made by the common banded garden spiders.

Can you see the spider in the center of the web? He seems to be greenish in color with darker(black?) bands on his legs. When touched he jumped to the ground and disappeared. Later we saw him back in the center of the web.

Today was another beautiful September day. As soon as the sun dried and warmed The tall sedum in the front flower bed, numerous butterflies and bumblebees arrived to dine on the nectar from its mauve colored flowerheads.

The first to arrive were the buzzing bumblebees followed close behind by this beautiful butterfly.(Monarch butterfly)

and ... another one.

then...

More bumblebees and butterflies arrived; the garden was a buzz of activity!

The tall sedum is in many different locations in my garden. The biggest section was right by the front walk near the front porch. What a delight to sit out watching all the activity. I tried to get a picture of a huge yellow butterfly but it was too quick and flew away.
But, most of the others were so busy dining they did not care how close we got to observe them.

Last but not least, up at Mom's, the clematis is twining up the corner post of the porch in full bloom. I hope to add a clematis to my garden someday. They are beautiful.
