It is what we can make of the mess we have made of things.

30 Aug 2006 - My memories of Mr. Ritz
Today we attended the funeral of one of my favorite teachers, Mr. Ritz.
Although he had retired from teaching some years ago, he will always live in my memory as my 7th grade science teacher back in the year 1964. He stands out from all the other teachers I ever had for several reasons. He was a very good science teacher; he was very mild mannered making it easier to learn; plus, He was the teacher that kept me from failing by noticing I could not see the writing on the blackboard. After he realized this and brought it to my attention, I went home and told my parents and they took me to an optometrist where my eyes were examined and I was fitted with eyeglasses. Even after all these years I can still remember sitting in the waiting room of the optometrist after getting my new pair of glasses. A life changing moment when I looked out the window and could read the signs on the other side of the street! I did not realize before that I could not see much at a distance. It was like my whole world lite up. I could see things so clearly! It seems hard to believe that i did not realize I had such poor eyesight but after I starting wearing glasses, it was a breeze getting good grades and making the honor roll.
He was also the only man from my church that ever took the time to try to get my grown son to start attending church. He took the time to invite him to come to church.
Mr. Ritz was an asset to the community and my life has been blessed in many ways for having known him.
