It is what we can make of the mess we have made of things.

12 Aug 2006 - saturday morning
.....so i have sat here and messed around with making more backgrounds for my diary using the browneyed susan pic from stargazzer.
and it is another nice mild day here in the valley. i have a ton of work to be doing. i am working on making a bog garden using cattails, i will have to make another attempt as the last two tries have been unsuccessful. i am now going to plant some cattail seeds in a big pot and see how that works, i need to find some type of round container to sink in the ground, fill with some water and sink my pots of cattails down beneath the water.
well, i am trying to have an instant stand of cattails and that is not going to work, i need to slow down and be more careful with my work. also the heat did not help that we had at the beginning of the month, it dried up my 2nd batch of cattails. but i am hopeful of having a nice boggy stand of cattails next year. somehow........ i love cattails and they attract wildlife too, it is not in my yard but down along the woodland trail i have been working on for some time....... i have visons of how the trail will look, right now it does not look like much, some ferns, some hostas, spiderworts, some lilies, etc. in a zigzag tiny trail just along the line of woods by my driveway, in time it will meander along the entire wooded hillside going down to just the bank above the holler road.....i will add flat creekrocks for stepping stones and some birdhouses and feeders, already have a windchime hanging in one tree, i will take pics and post as i have time. also have plans of making a rustic fence out along the walk leading into my deck. i have planted some roses at the end and have a picture in my mind of how it should look next summer. all my roses are old garden, old-fashioned, what some may call wild roses, but very easy to grow and very fragrant and pretty in the may/june.
guess i have to go now, i need to fix lunch. hope everyone has a great weekend. enjoy. thanks for stopping by.

old rose on roadbank by my driveway, planted 1998 from bare root dug at mom's
old roses growing along the my back driveway, planted 1998 from bare roots dug at mom's,
along back driveway
these may be rugosas, maybe apothecary rose on bank? not sure, they were growing around the homestead mom and dad bought in the 40's, house is over a hundred years old now.
i love old-timey roses. i hope you enjoy my pics, sorry i do not know the actual names of the roses.
they are doing so good this year, i have dreams of transplanting some to newer areas , especially out by my front deck.
