Current time in my woods
28 Apr 2009 - Personal Challenge: Making Fun of Boring Stuff
It is a known fact that holiday shopping begins well before the actual holiday starts. A colleague pointed to me a strange oddity about pre-vocational shopping. He asked why would you need new clothes, if where you’re going, they never seen you in your old ones anyway?! Indeed, there is something very illogical in that buying things for vacation idea. I can’t explain it quite. Yet here I am, found myself out there, exposed to all the temptations of the dramatically tanned perfect bikini lines of the mannequin’s in the shop's windows. Well, let’s say, I’ve made up few necessities as an excuse to indulge my consumerism in his worst.

Shopping can never be serious with me. I just cannot simple walk into the shop, try on things and buy them at a till. And if I do my shopping this way, it just means – I’ll be back next day returning goods. Today my shopping was educational – I’ve learned a lot about sun lotions. How they might differ in something other then the price and as a side-knowledge I’ve learned about my skin type too. That poor initially-very-friendly shop assistant swiped few drops of sweat when I finally made my choice. (it was btw the same bottle my hand was about to reach in the first place before my blond head decided I need advice first.) Apart from sun lotion I’ve also discovered a totally kiss-proof lipstick. The helpful shop assistant pointed me to one particular brand saying “it won’t come off until you actually wash it off”…little she knew! I rubbed the back of my palm under the running water when I returned to the office and I still can admire the only slightly faded colour of a test stroke. Trust me, you don’t want that anywhere near his white shirt! I’m surprised at how far the cosmetic industry progressed to since last time of me taking interest in such kind of products… I wouldn’t even want to mention my take on a swimwear! They do it now in pick&mix fashion when you can have as crazy combination of tops and bottoms, as the absence of your taste can let you. The idea was this would make it easier to choose…not to me, thank you very much. Too much choice for me means – panic attack for my brain. When there are too many alternatives, there is never the one that feels perfect. Needless to say I ended up with the “bottomless” swimsuit. This is opposed to topless, as you might’ve guessed. I figured out bums are much easier to cover up then boobs, so now I will have to hunt for the best match for my top…a bottom-soulmate so to speak… so that’s what I’ve been doing today and that’s what I’ve been writing about – a mundane shopping…I guess, I could’ve just write it as:” have been shopping, bought stuff for my holidays”, but then this wouldn’t be half as fun as it appears when you write it with a tongue-in-cheek. In the end of a day fun could be found in almost anything we do in our daily routine. You just have to use your other eyes to see it, don't you? ;-)
