15 Jun 2002 - Mprov: The King of Iced Tea
So, anyway, I was thinking that I need to write more. So why not do some mprov's around the Summer of Love challenge using the mprov tool? They don't have to be official or anything, and since this isn't a LiveJournal, nobody will ever notice that I'm writing them, and yeah, it's all cool.

Pairing: Kevin and Lance
Words: excel; rubber; king; lair

"Knock, knock."

Lance didn't look up. It wasn't one of the guys, and even if it was, he wasn't going to allow himself to be distracted. "Go away, I'm busy."

"I've gone to the trouble of tracking you down in your lair, and you don't have time for me?"

"No."

In his peripheral vision, Lance saw the other man coming closer, and he gathered the laptop protectively close to him. Chris, in particular, liked to close it on his fingers when he thought Lance wasn't paying attention to him. However, instead of the expected interruption, a tall glass of iced tea was set down on the table. The glass was sweating from the heat.

He looked from the iced tea to the computer. Sighing, he set it back down on the table and picked up the glass. "You've got five minutes."

Kevin Richardson was staring at him. "Five minutes? Should be long enough. I've been told I excel at convincing people to do what I want."

"And what can I do for Backstreet today?" Lance sighed, and sipped the tea. It was good. Real iced tea, and not the drop-the-powder-in-the-water-and-stir kind that Joey would've brought him.

"Come out and play?"

Lance blinked. "Excuse me?"

Kevin raised his eyebrows at Lance. "You haven't noticed the people splashing in your pool? The dance music? The barbecue?"

"I noticed..." he began defensively, then stopped. He obviously hadn't noticed Kevin showing up. "How many people are in the pool, and how much am I going to have to pay to get it cleaned up?"

The eyebrows raised again. "Damn. AJ tells me regularly that I'm a tight ass, but you..."

Lance was tempted to use one of Chris' retorts, the 'I'm rubber, you're glue' one, but didn't think it'd have the same effect if he wasn't sticking out his tongue. "Yes?"

"Let me give you the benefit of the accumulated wisdom of years of being a tight ass, then. The work never stops. Yeah, somebody's got to do it, and there's such a thing as too much play, but neither you nor I is ever going to fall prey to the latter. So come outside and enjoy yourself for a while, okay?"

"You don't know--"

"I know better than anyone else is going to."

There wasn't much arguing with that. "Why do you care?"

"Needed someone to bond with? There's a two tight ass minimum at this shindig, and Brian had to stay home."

He laughed despite himself. Could it really hurt to take a little while off? And the iced tea was quite good. "All right. But if I get thrown in the pool, I'm holding you personally responsible."

"Deal."

****

Lance stepped out on the patio.

Chris was standing on the diving board, behind JC, holding out his arms, shouting, "I'm king of the world!"

"Okay," Lance said to Kevin. "You were right. I wouldn't have missed this for anything."

Kevin smiled. "Told you I was good."
