Or not.As Peachy reminded me, it's time for Idol once more. Since I found my favorite contestant of all time last year, I'm not heavily invested in this season (nor do I anticipate being invested any time soon). Given the fact that they're going back to a top 24 format for the semi-finals (12 boys singing one night, 12 girls the other night), I'm waiting until the top 12 are chosen before starting my full reviews. Two reviews two nights in a row - with shows of two hours each - is just too much. I may comment on the semi-finals a little, but not go into any detail because, really, who remembers the losers from last year? Other than "Normund Gentle" fondling the scenery, that is. Ah, good times.
I did watch the premiere last night. Didn't miss Paula at all. I actually think it was less tense in the judging panel without her. I thought Victoria Beckham did a decent job, too - she didn't try to critique the kids too much on their singing (which would be out of her league) but focused more on the marketing/fashion side of things. Considering they're looking for someone who is "the whole package," that's a good viewpoint to have. There were some talented kids, but no one blew me out of the water. Then again, I don't think Adam or Kris blew me out of the water with their auditions, either, so who knows? The judges do seem to be going for the nice, likeable kids this time around, and there are plenty of sob stories to be milked (He overcame cancer! She's taking care of her Portuguese grandmother with Alzheimers! She's helping to take care of her three younger brothers with Down Syndrome! He's a drummer who broke both his hands falling out of a tree!) Pity the person who is simply a good singer, who's studied music all their lives and simply wants a break. They won't go far this year.
Ah, well. That's American Idol. *sniff* God bless it.
