First, for those who asked about my vacation, it was okay. The highlight was going to Epcot and running across Nick Lachey filming a host segment for the upcoming reality show, "High School Musical: Get In the Picture." It was rather more exciting seeing him than, say, watching Idol this year. :-)I didn't watch last night's results show, but people have been talking about Fantasia's performance, so I found some video of it on the Internet, including Simon's priceless "What-the-h*ll-is that?" face. I don't know - as I told Peachy, I thought that Fantasia's performance was screechy and unintelligible, but it was probably the most exciting thing on Idol this year for me. I mean, really, I'm bored, folks. This season has been a foregone conclusion since the Top 12 (David vs. David) that it's just been one big anticlimax since then. Even the contestants seem tired now. So at least Fantasia was jumping around and acting excited and getting people to wake up. Goodness knows that someone needs to do so on that show.
FWIW, I think that David Cook deserves to win - he's shown more versatility, he's more in touch with what people want to listen to today, and I think he could handle the pressure better than little David Archuleta - but I'm not so excited by him that I want to run out and buy his CD. At least, not until I heard some samples of his work first. I know he can do great arrangements of other people's songs. I want to hear some original music. And I have no great faith that 19E will allow him free rein to do whatever he wants on that first album. In some ways, it might be better for him if he came in second. But hey, what do I know? I haven't bought a winner's CD since Clay Aiken's first album. Oh, right, Clay didn't win [*wink* *wink*].
So next week I'll be recapping both the Final 2 performance show and Wednesday night's finale. And that will be it for the year. I'll spend the next month catching up on my sleep.
