New Add Friends System

The old system has been replaced. Now there are two steps to add a new friend, the first is on the original screen but this is now a SEARCH box.
The drop down will still drop down if it finds people while you type, but you do not have to click on what it finds. Click the Search button when you have entered enough information for your search. You’ll then be taken to a new screen, which will list all the results of the search. Tick the box for the friends you want to add and click submit.
If all went well, your new friends will be added. They’ll have to go to their end of the friends screen to allow you access to their entries if they decide to. I’m working on the possibility of having the system e-mail your friend to let them know they’ve received a request, but in the meantime, you’ll need to do that manually πŸ™‚
Let me know how it goes for you all!

  1. There’s a small issue with the new site when viewed on an iPad.
The floating “Follow” bar on the right side sits over the entry and blocks some of the diary text where it word wraps on the right.
    You can’t move it either.
You also can’t turn off the Mobile theme. It just defaults back on when the page refreshes,
So…site could still use some tweaking.

    1. I’m surprised it works at all on an iPad πŸ™‚ I don’t have one to test with unfortunately… Though if anyone wants to fundraise to buy me one…. Bahahahaha.
Hmmm, yes, I see what you mean about the floating follow bar, the ability to turn that off might be good.
I’ll have to have a play with the mobile theme. You haven’t disabled cookies on the iPad safari have you? It sounds like a strange cookie issue.

    2. “So…site could still use some tweaking.”
Indeed – I suspect it always will. The joy of running as it does on WordPress now is that I actually /can/ tweak it without spending hours trawling through code just to find the area I need πŸ™‚

  2. as an alternative to e-mail notification it can be also a setting that when you logged on to your diary, in the news it’ll say “pending friends requests”, similar to the facebook option. If this is easier to implement then e-mail notifies, I think, it will work for the most of diarists.
