Plus Account Discount

Here you can read about an effective discount to the Plus Account Price.

Some of you may remember that we recently announced that DearDiary.Net was now being operated by Kabarty Pty Ltd from Australia – and we noted that it is still owned and operated by Rose and Steve. This is still true – and it has led us to change the way the Plus Accounts are billed.

Plus Accounts are now billed in Australian dollars and NOT in US Dollars. This leads to an effective 10% (or thereabouts) discount as a result of the exchange rate. So, at todays exchange rate, a one year Plus Account now costs US$16.61 ( AU$18 = US$16.61 ).

So, if you wanted a good reason to go Plus again, there you have it!

Enjoy,
Steve and Rose.

Are you on SBCGlobal.net?

If you are, we cannot send e-mails to you.

SBCGlobal repeatedly add our mail server to their antispam blacklist and as such we cannot get mail through because their server rejects it. I have written to them on a number of occasions and have been removed, only to be added back into the blacklist again a few days later.

The quickest option to get your notifies flowing again is to login and change your e-mail address to a non sbcglobal.net address (change your PRIVATE address not your public one). A slower approach would be, as a customer of sbcglobal.net, to write to them and ask why they keep blocking deardiary.net servers!

Sorry for the inconvenience but I’m not going to keep writing to them every couple of days to get removed from their blacklist, they’ll need some pressure from inside to figure out why their blacklist is being over protective.

Strange Errors…

I’ve received a few reports of strange database errors happening, including people whose Friends Lists have suddenly disappeared.

At present I’m not seeing these problems under any of my accounts, and so I’m really not sure what at all is happening. If I can get to repeat the problems, or get someone else who can repeat the problem for me, I should be able to fix it.

My guess is that it’s simply something gone weird with the database and a restart may well fix it. But I need a repeatable test case so that I can be sure what works and what doesn’t!

If you have any information please e-mail it to me!

Ta,
Steve

Switching Owner Company – again

Hello all,
As some of you may be aware, I’m now living in Australia and have been for a few months. A few years ago, the company that owns DearDiary.Net (and OpenFiction) was renamed from Hamiko Ltd to Kabarty Ltd though it’s taken some time for parts of the site to be updated to reflect that. Probably there’s still some remnants of the old name left even now.

However, this time, the ownership is being transferred from Kabarty Ltd (a UK registered company) to Kabarty Pty Ltd (an Australian registred company). The only area this will really affect (apart from cosmetically on the site) is the Plus payments system, which will switch from showing Kabarty Ltd to showing Kabarty Pty Ltd. However, as they’re totally seperate PayPal accounts, it’s possible that something may go wrong.

I’ve tested a transaction myself and it went through OK and ‘Plussed’ my account. However, if you try to go Plus and it doesn’t automatically add your payment, or something else goes wrong, please visit The Support Pages and let me know.

It should be noted that the ownership of both Kabarty Ltd and Kabarty Pty Ltd is staying with Steve and Rose, nothing’s changing there. It’s just for ease of accounting (and I’m getting bored of doing returns for 2 companies!).

If you’ve any questions feel free to drop us a line!
Ta,
Steve and Rose.

You've sent something to our server to which it objects

Or, you just get a 403, Forbidden error message…

Yeah, sorry. The server was recently compromised by some unscrupulous bots that exploit weaknesses in various scripts that are available on the internet. Usually phpBB, but the list is growing. I’ve therefore tightened up the security settings for the server, but it appears these settings are a little too tight in places.

If you see the ‘You have sent some data to our server to which it objects’ screen, please drop me a line and let me know what you were trying to send and to which diary you were trying to send it. I can then use that information to loosen the security settings again for the DearDiary site.

Sorry for the inconvenience. If you want someone to blame, blame the people who have nothing better to do but hijack other peoples computers for their own purposes. *sigh*

Steve
