New Users Fixed

The problem affecting new users has been fixed.

After a day of pretty solid graft on the DearDiary code (most of which I haven’t looked at in a good few months) I believe I have the problem for new users fixed.

However, its a VERY big change and it’s not been tested as thoroughly as I would like because of the need to get it online as soon as is possible. Therefore, I have taken a complete snapshot backup of the site as of 20:00 GMT, and taken a database backup as of the same time. I don’t anticipate needing it but if you notice something strange with the system, in particular with system messages such as your Index Text or Welcome Message, Entry Headers or Footers etc, then please mail me as soon as you can at;

support@deardiary.net

so that I can look into it as soon as possible.

Fingers and toes crossed, or for those of you in Finland, thumbs up…

Note to users suffering this problem

You will need to login to your diary and click the Customize Button, then choose the messages screen, and edit one of the message files under there. The system will now notice that you do not yet have any files stored there and will create them for you. You can then edit them as normal users would have done before the problem.

You can click here to go to the correct screen in the customizer. You will be prompted for your username and password if you are not already logged in.

New Users

We currently have a bug in the system that has shown itself in the past couple of weeks. If you are a new user you will NOT be able to change your Welcome message or Index Message and you will NOT be able to upload an private images.

We are working to fix the problem but its in a pretty integral part of the code and isn’t easily changed without lots of unpicking and stitching back together so it may not be a quick fix…

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays (depending on where you are)

This will be DearDiary’s 4th Christmas, so from everyone at AtomIC Systems, we would like to wish you Happy Holidays.

This will be DearDiary’s 4th Christmas, so from everyone at AtomIC Systems, and especially those that deal with DearDiary (which isn’t all of us any more, because we’ve grown a bit) we’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

And a sort of Christmas Card to you all;

May your Christmas and New Year Take Off and Fly!

Minor Bugfix.

Hi folks,

Its been a while since I even looked at the DD codebase (boy, we sucked when we coded this thing ;-)) but nonetheless, enough people have fallen over the ‘unable to entries if they’re duplicated’ so I finally got the damn thing fixed :-)

So, if you have entries on the same day with the same title etc, you should now be able to delete them, even if you couldn’t previously…

Connectivity Issues

We’re experiencing major database issues again, due to a significant bug somewhere in MySQL.

We’re trying various options to fix the problem, but please bear with us for a little while longer. The problem manifests itself as a sudden (and catastrophic!) slow down, which on the server itself is represented by a load average exceeding 100 on some occasions. Under normal load that number hovers around 0.8 to 1.2… That gives you some idea as to what the numbers represent at least. (100 renders the server almost unuseable).

We’ll let you know how we get on.
