Top Ten

If anybody ever wants to come off the top ten for any reason, just drop us a note to support and we’ll put you on the block list.

Some people don’t like to be on the top ten because while they want a public diary, they don’t particularly want a spotlight to be shone on them either.

It’s no problem, it’s no trouble, just let us know by email from the account that you signed up with and we’ll be happy to help :)

I need to get this in the FAQ I guess really! :-)

Top Ten Ordering

I’ve just spotted that the Top Ten currently seems to have all the subscribed users at the top of the list – I can assure you that this is not by design, it’s still entirely random, updated once every day.

Pictures – clearing things up

Rick took an interesting view on the announcement about the photo album’s that I hadn’t thought of. He asked if this meant that diarists would no longer be able to put photo’s in their diary and that all of his had disappeared?

I can most definitely state that all we’re adding here is a user friendly way of doing it – one that doesn’t require you to get webspace somewhere else, then work out the IMG tag that you need to use to put into your entries and so forth. It’ll work just like the graphics manager inside the system that currently allows you to upload new buttons and background images etc.

We are NOT disabling the ability to use photo’s from other sources, and the fact that your photo’s have disappeared is entirely a coincidence – one that i’m more than happy to help you isolate Rick if you drop me a mail to the support address.

If you know how to do photo’s the current way, it’s detailed in the FAQ, then please do continue to do this – we won’t be stopping you, now or ever. If you don’t, or don’t like that way, the new Atomic Albums site will provide a far simpler way of doing it that doesn’t require any HTML knowledge.

I hope that has cleared that up, and my apologies for the confusion :)

Blank Screen should be fixed

Hi all,

Caught out again was I… Why do I always forget to test my pages in Netscape? Please, apart from the fact its a crap browser, I really should make the effort….

LisaMarie, you should find its not a blank screen any more. I tested it just now in Netscape and it worked fine (after I fixed it :)).

To franny, if you could email and let me know which screen you’re looking at and what you don’t understand I’ll be more than happy to help, and sorry you find something confusing – if its under our control we’ll go ahead and fix it!

Subscriptions now LIVE

I’m happy to report that our new subscription mechanism is online.

All the latest info about it is in the new SECTION 7 of the FAQ so go and have a read, find out what it’s all about, what it costs and how to do it.

I should stress that our original plan to make subscriptions voluntary is STILL TRUE – if you don’t want to, or can’t afford to, then don’t worry – the site hasn’t changed for you.

I’ll not repeat any of the information in the FAQ here but suffice to say it’s pretty much the result of all the discussions we had with you – many thanks for your input, if there’s anything about this new subscription system that we’ve done, that you don’t like, just drop us a line and we’ll be happy to talk it through.

As an extra bonus for subscribed users – we’ve decided to bring online a much sought after facility for placing Photographs online. It’s in development at the moment but it’s storming along. It will be a separate, subscriber only, website and it will integrate with Dear Diary so that you can quickly and easily put photo’s into your diary entries.

Why Subscriber only for the photo site? Simple – we feel that as a free site it would cost far too much to run in bandwidth costs and would be far more wide open to abuse from things like Pornography. Put simply, if someone pays for a service they are far less likely to abuse it.

We also have a Web900 subscription system coming online imminently, this means that for (US only, unfortunately) those without credit cards you can sign up by simply dialing a phone number. We’ll let you know when it’s online, any day now.

Matt and Steve.
