New Rector, Patio stones

Sun Oct 29 – We took the kids to church and stayed for the potluck lunch. I took Mac salad. Food was so good. It was for Rev Cathie’s farewell. W took girls to skating.

Sunday, Nov 5/17 – The new minister started today. She seemed nice. She seemed a little bit nervous but she has a good sense of humour. She has an 11 year old dog named Heidi that she usually brings to church. It is a German shepherd Alsatian I think cross so it is big. So everyone is excited to see the dog. It rained off and on all day. I don’t know how he cut the grass? Hubby went to Cathy’s and got 6patio stones, how I don’t know, they are sooo heavy! I caught up on church books. W took girls to skating. When she got back. Hubby and I went and got the rest of the patio stones. Wow they are heavy! How he did 6 by himself, I don’t know!  Cathy showed me her new deck and interlocking brick patio and walkway. Very nice. I baked some squash and did mashed pots and fried pea meal bacon and corn. Getting my hair cut this morning. W is mad because it’s her day off and A is staying home sick and is lying on the couch instead of in bed.

Auction fun

It was rainy all day here.  I bought Win lots of urns and things at the auction today for her business. I got so many fun things for her to work with. They were just giving the stuff away at the end.  Hope she can make some money with some of it.  She has 2 craft shows coming up before Christmas.  Just rested today as we are both sore from yesterday.

Friday off

Friday, Oct 27/17 – I had today off. We worked outside all day.  I cleaned up the veg garden. Hubby took the shingles and rotten plywood off the garden shed roof as there was a big hole in it.  We are both exhausted. Cardboard pizza for supper.  I have an auction at the church tomorrow. Is supposed to rain tomorrow.  We have a potluck at church on Sunday to say goodbye to the interim rector.  The new one ‪starts November 1st. I also planted some perennials.‬ My bum is so sore from bending over. 19759 steps today!

Saturday Things

Beautiful day and I had to work. Is supposed to rain on Monday which I have off.
A is having their thanksgiving family thing today at his family’s.   Win had today off so went to swimming with girls and then they left.  The Hotdog is coming and they are going to a roller derby thing at the arena and she is having a table to sell some of her dinosaur plant things. Hope she sells a couple or she will be discouraged! The Hotdog is staying at Flower St tonight as Kay has gone to visit E in scotland until November 2. I think she really misses E. Win said the lawyer is trying to get the court date for this January. She said, when she went for her appt, before she even sat down, he said, wow A is a control freak asshole! Lol so if he can see it, hopefully the judge will. He says it could be 4 days. Also Win lost her Fitbit! She thinks it fell off at the pumpkin farm.

Harvest Home

It was Harvest Home at church which was decorated so beautifully. The minister asked the kids in the huddle what they were thankful for. Puddin said family? Win and I had to laugh because Sugarplum was the only kid who was thankful for food and she is the one who will never eat her supper!  Lol. So then last night she asked me if I made supper for them and I said yes.  She said,” oh, I want to thank you for making us supper” and Mouthy pipes up and says ” me too, Thank you for supper Grandma” and Sugarplum actually ate all her supper up without any coaxing! Lol

#2 Son and family came over for a visit. The Goober cut all the grass for me, pulling the kids around in the little red trailer behind him.

Saturday Oct 14

Hubby seems okay today.  We got the air compressor that fell on him off the trailer and down the side walk going to the back.  He took the motors off so it wasn’t quite so heavy.  I moved all the leftover wood from the old pool deck and stacked it neatly so he can put the boat back over there and get it off the driveway.  Cloudy but was working in my tank top, just started to drizzle at 4 pm,so we quit.  He went to buy some potato salad to go with leftover turkey, that should finish it up. I’m exhausted!  15351 steps!
We have Harvest home at church so am taking the boys tomorrow.  Hubby will help #1 Son to something at His house, I forget what lol.
Sears is closing all their stores!  What a shame! I liked Sears.

Friday Oct 13

Hubby slept in until 8 am this morning which he never does.  He looked very pale and was tired.  He took his blood pressure and it was high so I gave him a pill.  He went to have his foot Xrayed again.  The old Biddy from Flower St called to say there is something wrong with the vent pipe now and she has called a plumber to look at it on Monday and would like Hubby there also.  Got caught up on my Diary web site this morning.  Working late today.

Broken Toes and Bare Naked Ladies

Mon. Oct 2 – Hubby’s stomach was swollen this morning and his foot was really sore and swollen so I called the doctor and they said for him to go down right away. He sent him for X-rays. I drove the girls to school as Win’s car wouldn’t start again.

Tues Oct 3 – Now the hot water heater has gone kaput. Always something. Ken fixed the broken window at #1 Son’s and did some glazing until about 4 pm. His foot was feeling a bit better and the swelling had gone down some until # 1 Son’s dog stepped on it, now it is hurting again.

Friday, Oct 6 – Hubby found out he has 2 broken toes, 3 and 4 on his right foot. It is still swollen and sore. I had a wellness day . I did dishes, cleaned up the house while Ken got fireplace stones from #1 Son’s. We built the new fire pit. Upper Canada Mechanical came and installed a new water heater, a commercial one with a 5 or 6 year warranty. We paid cash so the cost was $840. Including installation. I got a few more groceries. Hubby unplugged the vacuum.

Tues. Oct 10 – we had a good Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday about 4 pm, everyone but the Goober came as he was working. We brought mom here for a few hours in the afternoon as it was so warm, we all sat outside on the deck and the kids played in the yard along with the 4 dogs. We ate inside though because of the dogs and the girls wanted to lay the table. I put the potatoes in at 8 on low in the crock pot. I put the turkey in at noon and it was really good and moist and done by 4. On Monday we worked on the church chip truck for the last time as they are selling it. Hubby didn’t go as his foot was too sore  Win took his place.

Tonight Win surprised me with tickets for my birthday, for us and Rooster and her mom to see the Bare Naked Ladies! They were awesome! They were so entertaining and funny. They played some songs from their new album coming out in Nov that I liked. A great night! The girls asked Win where we were going, she said to a concert, to see a band. What band? Um Bare Naked Ladies. WHAT!?! You’re going to see Bare ladies? No they have clothes on and they are men, they are Fully Clothed Men. Lol

Sep to Oct 1

Saturday, Sep 9/17 – one year since we had the flood at Flower St.  I went all the way to Welland and got to the road and there was no sign, I thought that was strange, found he address and no one was there, then I realized it is next Saturday! The 16th ugh!  I think I’m getting senile!

Beautiful day here, picked tomatoes and a few more beans. Made hamburger zucchini rice stir fry for supper and white chocolate chip cookies.  Cut all the grass and did some pruning.  Hubby is making new front steps for #1 Son’s house. Win is coming for supper and then we are going to see the movie, the glass house by Jeannette Wall . It’s a true story, really good. The movie wasn’t as good as the book, but then they never are.  Woody Harrelson was good as the father in it. Sitting in the sun on the deck. Love it.

Saturday, sep 16/17 – had an auction in Welland.  I got a chain saw for $12 and a nice little hatchet for camping.  We went to the Pig and Corn roast at church.  The Mike Lynch band played good old country music like Elvira, Shadimio etc. Mouthy and Magoo danced every song.  People were dancing right after supper, even while some were lined up for dessert.  Had a good time.  Boys were so good.  They stayed overnight and Dan picked them up Sunday morning, no Sunday school so didn’t go to church.  Win is working a wedding show today. Beautiful hot and sunny all weekend.

Wednesday, Sep 20 – we had a good stewardship meeting at McGregs las night and then tonight we went to Dot’s retirement party at Conversations Cafe in Beams after work.  There were about 50 people there including Luke, Gwen, Dana, .Rhonda, .Wendy C and Drag.

Friday, Sep 22. – Janet and I booked a European River cruise for 15 days from Amsterdam to Budapest.  We got a really good price.  So excited.  I had to call Visa as I had just paid Ws lawyer bill so there wasn’t enough room.  What a hassle but I got it done.  Kay and I also arranged the staff Christmas party at Lascala restaurant and then we are going to a comedy club after on Nov 25.

Saturday Sep 23 – we had an auction at the church last night and I put some of moms things in it, dainty handkerchiefs, her faux fur coat, meat grinder etc.  Then his morning I walked in the Grape parade with meridian.  I drove up and parked at 9 and sat and read my book for an hour.  At ten we gathered and got our noise makers and water.  It was so hot, felt like 40 C.  We had s Brazilian steel drum band from Toronto with us.  I was glad I didn’t take my camera as it is heavy.  We started the parade off at 11 and walked 5 kms.  It took us an hour but we had to walk slowly.  Thank goodness we had the band to march to.  I was back home by 12:30.  I had to ice my sore foot.

Sunday, Sep 24 – I went to church and then parish council.  Then about 1:30 I took Mouthy and Magoo to Bro’s for a swim and Win brought the girls.  It was a lovely hot day and the water was beautiful.  We stayed until 5 and then we went home and had macaroni salad for supper that I had made ahead of time.  # 1 Son and wife were painting their house on Carl St.

Monday, Sept 25 – I have this week off. Hubby and I cut all the lower branches off the big spruce tree out back and took the branches to the dump.  I weeded all the deadly nightshade out from underneath it.  It looks so much better now.  It was very hot again and I was exhausted!

Tues. Sep 26 – today was another very hot humid day, near 40!  Hubby fixed his motorbike while I scraped up the rest of the rotten wood and weeds behind the garage on the cement.  Then we moved all the mowers Eric dropped off up onto the cement,  I loaded the trailer up with some of the brush behind the workshop and Hubby tied it down,  it was so hot, we were exhausted.  I got some groceries.

Wed. sep 27– Hubby worked making the new gate by the garage today while I restacked the firewood and chopped the long pieces up with the chop saw.  I also chopped up the walnut tree he had cut down and another one.  I put all the kindling nice and neat and put the outside wood in the little red trailer so it is separate from The indoor wood.  Then I went to Michaels and got some decorations and stuff to make up the gift basket for Dorothy and made coleslaw for the pot luck tomorrow.  Went to Win’s and she wrapped it for me.  Tired and sore.

Thurs. Sept 28 – Hubby worked on the new gate by the garage and I chopped all the long fire wood with the chop saw and stacked it all nice and neat.  I also went to Michaels and bought some stuff for Dot’s present and myself and then after supper I went to Win’s and had her wrap it for me. Was very tired.

Fri. sep 29 – went to work early as it was Dot’s last day.  We had a potluck lunch .  I took coleslaw.

Sat. Sept 30 – We had a farm auction in Niagara on he lake today.  Hubby wanted the air compressor and I got a large pot and truck rim for a fire pit.  Hubby came to pick up the compressor and Norma came too as they were just on their way out to lunch.  So Hubby was trying to move the 1000 pound air compressor and it fell on him at the auction today.  He’s ok but me and another man lifted it off him.  I thought his legs were broken!  He went into shock.  A man called 911.  We laid him down.  The EMS guys checked him out and said he was ok.  He has some bad scrapes on his legs and arm and his chest is red.  He will have bad bruising and be sore for a few days.  He’s home now and seems fine.  The compressor is in the trailer.  Another exciting day at the our house!  Geez!

Bon Echo 2017

Sat. Aug 19 – We were up early and left at 5:22 am!  We had #2 Son’s trailer on #1 Son’s van but the trailer hitch was very low.  We stopped along the QEW and called Hubby but there was nothing he could do so we carried on, going slowly.  We had the canoe on the roof of the van as well.

We arrived at Bon Echo about 11 am. and Win’s friend, the Am. Hotdog and his 3 kids arrived a few minutes later. Min and Cin and Jan were already here.  We set up the tents before it started to drizzle.  we had grilled cheese for lunch, and then went for a walk to the lake.  Win and her kids and the Am Hotdog and his kids are in their own campsite down the road from us older ladies. :)

Sunday Aug 20 – It was a nice day so Win, Hotdog and kids went out in the canoe and kayaks.  The 4 oldsters went to the main beach in the afternoon.  Min and I went for a swim.  There are nice big old pine trees everywhere.  We looked around the visitor centre.  Win and the Hotdog found a nice rock to swim off of.  The kids call it the “Mermaid Rock”.  About 3 pm we returned to the campsite as the beach was busy and noisy.

Monday Aug 21 – We got up early and rented a canoe and a kayak and all went out on Mazinaw Lake to look at the pictographs on the face of the rock cliffs. We canoed through the Narrows.  Hotdog, Win and kids went on to Mermaid Rock.  We had our lunch on the beach where we park the canoes as Min had forgotten her knapsack in the car.  Then we joined the others on Mermaid Rock.  We went in swimming but the Hotdog had jumped in and hurt his foot on the rocks.  it was quite swollen and painful. After a while we returned to the parking lot.  Win decided to take the Hotdog to the emergency in Nappanee, 2 hours away.  Nowhere closer had an xray machine.  I said I would watch the kids.   Us oldsters set up their tarp for them as it is supposed to rain tomorrow and cleaned up their campsite a bit. Jan and I fried some hamburgers and hotdogs for their supper and we had some too.  Then they played cards and games.  I lit the fire.  They wanted Smores but we didn’t want to do them.  They kept asking and asking to do them so we gave them marshmellows to roast.  Min and Cin came and we tried to have a sing song around the campfire but the boys were loud and rowdy.  At 9 we gave up and put them to bed.  I crawled into Win’s sleeping bag.  The Hotdog and Win got back about midnight.  He has an air cast on and his foot is broken.  He can’t drive.  I went back to my own tent where Jan was still awake reading.  A man was snoring very loudly across the road.

Tues. Aug 22 – At 7 am, we heard thunder so got up and went to the washroom.  We went back to bed and read until 10.  Min made pancakes for us for breakfast.  Win made pancakes for their lot too.  It rained off and on.  we sat and read and knitted.  It rained most of the day.

Wed. Aug 23 – It was cooler today.  we rose late.  The 4 of us went on the 1.7 km Tall Pines Trail.  Win too the kids on the Shield Trail while the Hotdog sat and read his book.  We saw a doe very close eating leaves.  Win and the kids saw 4 snakes and lots of frogs.  Two of the snakes were very large brown ones.  We went and got ice and had an ice-cream cone, then took a drive down to Joe Perry Lake and the farther campground.  We wouldn’t want to stay there, it is way too far from everything.  Jan and I made omelets and fried potatoes and tomatoes for supper.  Afterwards we went down to their campfire to try another sing song.  It was better tonight.

Thurs. Aug 24 – We rose about 10 again.  We went into the park store and then went on the Cliff Top trail, taking the little ferry over (cost $5.65).  There are 200 steps up to the top viewing platforms.  It is 1.5 km and took us about an hour.  We took the ferry back about 3 pm.  We had some snacks and read until suppertime.

Friday, Aug 25 – We got up early and dismantled the campsites.  Poor Win had to do most of it herself as the Hotdog couldn’t do much with a broken foot.  Win and I had to load the canoe on our car and both kayaks on the Hotdogs car.  It was very difficult to get the kayaks up there as there is nothing to hold on to!  We finally got all packed up and said goodbye to everybody.  I drove the Hotdog’s car with him, Kim and Eric, 2 kayaks and 3 bikes on the back.  Win drove our car with Ethan and her 2 girls and the canoe and trailer.  We drove together, stopping in Oshawa for supper at a Wimpy’s.  After supper we were ready to go but I got a heart palpitation.  Ugh!  We waited around awhile and it finally stopped so we carried on.  The traffic wasn’t too bad going through Toronto.  We got home about 10 pm and they all stayed overnight at our house, sleeping in the basement, the living room, Jan’s bedroom etc.

Sat Aug 26 – Hubby and I made them all eggs for breakfast, some fried, some scrambled.  We emptied the vehicles, Win had # 1 Son’s van cleaned and then she drove them back home over the border.
