18 May 2008 - Saturday's movies

Deja Vu starring Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer, Adam Goldberg, Paula Patton and others
Denzel seems to like doing sci-fi tinged action movies with trust themes: Virtuosity, Fallen, Machurian Candidate and this one. This was well paced and interesting. I hearted the group of nerds in this movie. Dorks can be heroes too! hehe

Stomp the Yard starring let's face it - seemingly many of the aforementioned Denzel Washington's illegitimate sons! (JK they were just that strapping and handsome) + Meaghan Good
No doubt this movie has its similarities to other redemption through dance films. But why should there only be one movie about that? This one was really well done with fine performances from the leads.

VACANCY starring Luke Wilson, Kate Beckinsale, & Frank Whaley
Young married couple end up trapped at an out of the way motel. Some parts of this were pretty scary while others were surreal. I'm kind of still guessing about a thing or two.

Are We Done Yet? starring Ice Cube, Nia Long & John C. McGinley
This is of course the sequel to the movie 'Are We There Yet?'. It sort of follows the formula of a lot of the dad-centered family movies. If this movie were made in the 80's it would have starred Chevy Chase or possibly Tim Allen if it came along in the 90's. But never mind all that. John C. McGinley makes this film, giving it kind of a 'What About Bob?' feeling.

The Gate from 1987 starring Stephen Dorff, Christa Denton, Louis Tripp & Kelly Rowan
because Sunnydale isn't the only town with a hellmouth! and we'd all like to think our salvation depends on an 11 year old boy, right?
side note: wow! Kelly Rowan looks soooo much like Mischa Barton when she was a teenager. strangely, their characters on The OC were not related.

a hot hot day means staying in & watching movies!
Cheers!
Jennifer
