Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to ME!

Today is my birthday. I made and decorated the cake, (all home made). I bagged 230 individual goodie bags for the trick or treaters. Picked up the food for the party. Decorated the house. Carved the pumpkin. Made the tombstones. Forgot to do alot of silly little things….Oh well, being 3-4 makes the letters C.R.S. a reality.

Things to do:

Set up food for the party

Get clown costume on

Finish decorating the outside

Heat up the Apple Cider

Dress the Hobbits in their costumes

Chill the soda

Try to steal some “Me Time”

Oh yeah, Vacuum……

Hope everyone has a great day today. Eat too much candy, and dance your hearts out! Happy Halloween Everyone!

Sit Pretty

Falling from the sky

Birds, Stones, Words, Doubts

I reach up with bloody palms

I call for the freedom of my mind

Reaching for some kind of Salvation

Balance of the Libra

Sit pretty, hands folded upon your lap

be the lady not the judge

it is the freedom of our trespasses

that this humanity seeks

Shall I forgive you?

Do I know you?

Boundaries that bend and blind

A rubber band

Bouncing Bouncing Bouncing

stretched to it’s limits

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

skirts to the ankle

Such a lady

Quietly bond mouth

Silent truths rip the flesh and mind

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

broken promises, forgiveness once again

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

lace napkin hangs down

I can’t breathe

grey hairs and lavender

orange lipstick in the gold case

tea at 4 o’clock

knocks at the door

it’s him, he is waiting to come in

Black suit, not a wrinkle

Suave, smooth, sharp

Our date is postponed

Not to answer the door

fear

Stay where you are.

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

struggle for the words

Sit pretty, napkin on your lap

I refuse to go

Today

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

uniform soldiers lined up

Shot down with amnesia

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

children play in the yard

Dinner is late

burnt ribbons and aprons

frayed edges but still spinning

prejudges and stigmatas

Rosary lays in the hand

pearls scatter to the ground

Murmuring in the classroom

frankincense and mirth

giggles giggle giggles

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

grace and lavender

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

orange lipstick in the gold case

Sit pretty, hands upon your lap

it’s all still spinning

Family and Ghosts That Linger

Yesterday was an incredible day. My aunt arrived with daughter in tow to celebrate my grandfather’s 86th birthday. We surprised my grandparents at the restaurant with a special gift being them. My grandmother cried and my grandfather was smiling the entire night. Warm and fuzzy moment folks. We ate Greek food at a wonderful restaurant. After dinner we went to my grandparents house for tea and coffee. While the family chatted, Morgana (my 18 yr old cousin) and I went through my grandparents house to look at her possession for the memories. I found some old photos of my great grandparents in Holland that died during the war. One of the photos was of a victorian lady standing with a bald man with a goatie. This was my grandfather’s parents. I felt strangely connected to that photo. I even joked that I must have a bit of her in me because I am also married a bald man with a goatie. Morgana found that humourous. Morgana and I bonded quite well which is odd all in it’s self, I have always been estranged from my family due to age differences and changes that have occurred within my own parent’s marital status that have lead me to different roads in my life. I seem to have more in common with this girl than with any of my other cousins on either side of my parents families.

I felt like I was literally a part of the clan. It was a wonderful evening.

Back home I started thinking about my great grandmother in that photo. Ever since I was a child I have always mingled with spirits of the other side. When I was an infant my parents swore that I was taken care of by a spirit. I remember a victorian lady in my life. Her hair was piled up high on her head and she wore a long lace dress. I didn’t have any flesh humans who dressed like that to influence my mind so I always considered that either a past life issue or me being odd. I remember her hair colour as well, and still do. I just don’t remember clearly her eye colour. My parents spoke of a spirit that use to tuck me into to bed and play with me when I was suppose to nap. My parents would wear socks to sneak up on me to see what was entertaining me. I would be waiting for them when they arrived at the doorway with open arms as if someone told me that they were coming. One time my father got up for work and placed me into bed with my mother. Later that afternoon he called during his lunch. My mother thanked him for tucking the sheets around the two of us, to prevent me from falling out of her bed. My father stated that he didn’t.

Later on my parents moved out of the house and I always associated that house as the location of my protector ghost. It never crossed my mind that she may have been a family member. I knew that house and remember it from my infant days which surprised my father one day when I was a teen coming back into that town after a 15 year absence. I associated the house as being the house with the lady who took care of me.

In the later part of my childhood when my hair was extremely long I would whip it up into a victorian bun. I even have the swoop part for the front because of my widow’s peak. The hair style in the photo I wore for the mirror afraid to share outside of the bedroom.

I brought some of this to my husband’s attention because he has heard of the tales of the ghost who took care of me as a child as well from other family members. He made the comment that it was I who encouraged him to shave his head.

I am still digesting this tidbit of a reality check. None of the other grandchildren on my mother’s side of the family have had the honour of being taken care of by a spirit. My brother wasn’t blessed with that kind of experience either. I am the only one. I wonder if she is still with me.
