Wolf Creek – The Movie – don’t read if you want to see it, or have a really weak stomach

Warning…. don’t read on if you plan to watch this rather unfulfilling movie.

Last night we went to see Wolf Creek after we read a bunch of reviews that claimed it was “terrifying”, “disturbing” and “beautifully shot”. Sure they gave ROb Zombie a run for his money in the disturbing visuals part, and there were some real LOL scenes ripping off various other well known aussie movies, but other than that the movie was tedious and annoying, not to mention the witless inbreds behind us who, in true horror movie fashion, talked to the actors all the way through the movie “oh no, don’t do that, oh no, oh oh ohhhhh you’re fucked you are, don’t go in there!”

The thing that gets to me the most is that they claim it is based on the real events of 1999, that saw 3 backpackers disappear, 2 of whom were never found. The third, an Australian male was labelled “unreliable” and investigated for the disappearance of the 2 girls from England. Okay so that’s all fact. How do they get off claiming the rest of the movie was based on real events when the guy never saw what happend to either of the girls and they never found the villain, or the bodies. It makes the whole movie kind of worse, that the writer IMAGINED this is what would have happened to the girls, the severed fingers, the severed spine (head on a stick mate!), the multiple escape attempts and the ancillary victims.

Imagine how the families and friends of these two girls must feel after this movie? Do you think they want to imagine that these events might have occurred? If they had to sign some kind of release for the film to be made, I cannot believe that they did. It would be different if all of these events were known facts, and were reported accurately, or if it had been writted as fiction and “inspired by a similar occurance” or something along those lines, but it wasn’t. It was a shameless exploitation of something horrible that happened, in an attempt to sell movie tickets, I wish I hadn’t paid the money.

A couple of people walked out during the movie, not to come back, I wonder if they did so for the reasons above, or if they are just not as desensitised to on screen violence as the rest of us hard hearted and strong stomached crowd members.

The only movie I have walked out of in the cinema was Kids, many many years ago. I wanted to walk out of Hotel Paradiso, but exbf was actually enjoying the torture of watching it and wouldn’t let me leave. We very nearly turned off Somersault when we hired it on DVD, but in the end making fun of the dialogue generated enough enjoyment.

Bonehead 1: “fuck”

Bonehead 2: “what?”

Bonehead 1: “nuthin”

We still get a laugh out of repeating that.

Anyway, that’s my little hissy fit for the day, it didn’t come out on paper quite the way I have been thinking about it, but I have a lot of work to do, so I shan’t revise.

Shan’t should really be “sha’n't” shouldn’t it?

Just some more of the same…

Well today has been a constructive one, I actually found my last years tax statement and was able to submit this years without an accountant (the deadline ofr self submission is tomorrow). Yesterday was equally useful as we cleaned out the garage and dumped a LOT of stuff on the nature strip for the hard waste collection in a week or so. Aren’t we good?

We went out Friday night and saw a couple of bands, but I am getting old, and I just don’t stay out as late as I used to.

Realised the other day just how few friends I really have left in my “real” life, ithas made me quite sad of late. I wish my friends O/S would come home.

I have been trying to sell my engagement and wedding rings, but so far have had no luck on ebay, no luck with jewellery stores and no luck with pawn shops. I am trying the trading post this week *sigh*.

Tired and period pains says I am not going to see the accoustic band sets I was planning this afternoon, lazyness is probably the real reason though.

And the house needs cleaning… it always needs cleaning.

you MUST specify a TITLE darling

We’ve had some worrying news, I don’t know if I want to talk about it online or not, so I shall keep it to myself at the moment. No one is dying, so it is not THAT bad, but I am still upset and worried.

The ratties didn’t get stuck in their tube yesterday, but they have taken to sleeping in the top “petting zone” and it gets like a sauna in there, they are all wet in the morning and the roof is all steamed up, but they must like it, it’s not like they have nowhere else to sleep! We have christened the rat house “MelRATS Place” hehe.

I have been listening to the rain on and off all day today, it gets quite loud in my office, I think we have a tin roof here, I love that sound.

Ash has a kitchen trial tonight, and another tomorrow for a chef apprenticeship, I hope they don’t go too long, I miss him…

Oh good I have an excuse to leave early, the aprons I ordered for work are in stock so I have to go pick them up.

I am so tired, we were up half the night, talking and worrying, planning and crying, it was so hard to get up this morning, I ended up running late, although in the end I got here at 9:03, so only 3 minutes late. I usually try to get here about 8:45 though… I am trying to set good habits here, and not always be late.

*yawns and stretches*

That’s the third person to ask me if I moved house on the weekend… odd, we are not moving for another 3 weeks. We are going to sign the lease on Thursday and I am going to try to see the place again so I can make a rough sketch of the house and where we are going to put everything, see if there is anything I will need to get rid of…

Well these aprons are not going to pick themselves up!

Yohoho and a bottle of rum

Due to popular deman, here’s another entry *smiles*

I guess it has been over 2 weeks again since I wrote. I have been here at my new job for a month now, and am still enjoying it for the most part, it is just hard to get used to a whole lot of new idiosyncrasies and personalities, I knew everyone inside out at my last job, and could read them without any worries, here it is a little harder. I am getting there though, and 95% of me is still happy I made the change, particularly after the recent debacle with so called “friends” from my old job. *long story, never mind*

In other news, we got approved for a house to rent, so we are moving in 3 weeks, out of the suburbs a little, into hippy country, also known as Warrandyte, we are really excited, we love the area. Ash and I wandered around the town on Saturday, hand fed the ducks on the river and just soaked up the atmosphere, we are looking forward to it immensely. Bro hasn’t seen the house, he is too busy on Warcraft to bother coming to look at houses, and I have sincere misgivings about him continuing to live with us, he is a giant pain in the ass, but ah well, whatever happens, happens, we will be fine.

These are the only pics I have of the house, from the website, but I will take more when we move in.

The house doesn’t look like much on the outside, but it has stunning views across the tree tops because it is on such a high block, and it has the making of a great kitty run in the backyard as many many many years ago the owners kept chickens and the structure of the run is still there, with an enclosed hen house that will become kitty central.

We bought the ratties a new home yesterday too, I will post pictures tonight of them in it, but it looks like this:

Ours is slightly different colours, but essentially the same. We had a couple of dramas yesterday when they both tried to go up a tube at the same time, and got a little stuck, but they have got it figured out now. They spent about an hour going nuts running through the whole thing, which we have connected to their old cage as well, and they love it. I am going to go home and check on them at lunch time though, just in case they get stuck again I think.

Ash has had a few interviews for chef apprenticships, and has had a trial, which has completely convinced him that it is what he wants to do again. I want him to do it, and to be happy, but the hours worry me, we will never see each other. I am not going to stop him though, he needs to do something he loves.

That’s about it for my news. Hope you are all well! *mwah*

Wa-hey…

So, it’s been a few weeks since I have written (yet again), so thought I would sit here and tap away in my lunch break.

I am at the beginning of my second week at my new job, and am really enjoying it so far, all the people seem nice, and the work itself looks like it will be pretty interesting, and VERY challenging, which is good. I haven’t really been given many tasks yet, they are big believers in easing you in over the first week or two, then they promised they will throw me in the deep end.

Queensland was fabulous, we had the best holiday. Kath’s party was so much fun, even though we were both very tired and suffering from the “horrible heads” from flying in and going straight to the party, a few drinks dulled it, and a few more fixed it *grins*.

We spent Saturday night with Kath and then checked into our hotel on the Sunday afternoon. We decided not to be lazy and nap as we had originally planned and to go to the markets instead. We asked the guy at reception how to get to SouthBank and he gave us some odd sounding directions, but we took him at his word and started walking. 25 minutes later we found a tourist map and realised we weren’t even half way yet, he must have thought we had a car! Oops. We kept walking anyway and eventually found 2 of the 4 markets. Ash bought a pair of shorts and we relieved our tired feet and bodies by jumping in the lagoon in the center of SouthBank, I love that place. The walk home again was a hard one! We caught the bus every other day :)

The other highlight was Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort. We caught a boat over on the Tuesday and spent the day snorkling and swimming in the lovely beaches, then at sunset we waded into the water and hand fed the wild dolphins who congregate in the area, it was fun. We spent half an hour on the beach trying to decide if it was worth getting wet again when we would have to sit in the cold on the boat for an hour afterwards back to the mainland, and the water looked freezing, but it was actually nice once we got in, and we were glad we did it.

While we were away we had an offer on the house, our first one. I turned it down as it would leave us with a huge debt, but when I got back I went to see the real estate agent and he had talked them up a fair bit higher, and it leaves us with a fairly manageable debt in the end so I accepted and said I would get Mark to sign the papers that night and bring them back. I rang Mark straight away, and he flatly refused to sign anything, said he didn’t want to end up with a debt, and didn’t think he should have to pay anything and told me I would hear from his lawyers within a week. I was devastated, and he refused to answer any of my calls or messages for a week after that, and when I turned up on his doorstep in a last ditch effort to find out what was going on, he told his mum to send me away. I started panicking thinking he was going to get screwed by some lawyer who was telling him he could get out of paying anything and maybe get more money from me, as I have seen that happen to people before, and in the end they wind up with lawyers fees and the orginal debt. I ended up telling the estate agents the whole story, how we are separated etc, which we had kept quiet up til then, and they stalled the buyers for over a week til I finally heard from Mark.

Anywho, in the end Mark’s legal advice was exactly what I told him, he has to pay the debt and he has no legal standing on anything else I have (not that I have anything), so he signed the papers. As of Saturday morning, we are homeless in 9 weeks. (umm, yay? I don’t know).

Saturday afternoon, we bought 2 new ratties to celebrate, their names are Badger and Pudding and they are the most adorable little girls. I will post some photos at some point :)

Well that is it, my update. I have left out a lot, as usual.

Hope everyone is well, I will catch up on your entries soon, I promise!
