Entry Text: Diaries with Adult Content This is probably long overdue but finally, we're pleased to announce protection from diaries with adult content for the kids, and protection from breaking laws for authors of adult diaries. A win win situation, we hope! If you write a diary that contains adult content you MUST place your diary in the Adult Genre. Any diary in the Adult Genre will NOT allow access unless the person concerned has a valid AdultVerifier account. An AdultVerifier account will verify your age by means that are accepted legally in the US, and probably most of the rest of the world, by charging a membership fee to your credit card. Yes, sorry its another pay for service, but in reality there is no other accepted online way to prove your age. We hope people who want to read the adult diaries will understand, particularly since there are so many kids who read and write diaries here. We had a choice really, that was to provide an option whereby adults who want to read adult diaries have that freedom, and indeed adults who want to write adult diaries also have that freedom, but without exposing under age people to what may be in their content, or to completely ban adult diaries. As you know, DearDiary.Net ISN'T as free and easy as some of the other diary sites. Thats because we believe we have a duty to protect the children of our world and protect the general, decent people from those that would abuse their anonymity. However, we don't disagree with adult material, in the right place and shown to the right audience, so these checks are in place to ensure that the material can only reach the right audience. (Incidentally, that first sentence isn't intended to imply that authors writing adult material aren't decent people!) Anyway, feel free to provide feedback about this to the usual addresses... A note to ALL diarists who write adult material. PLEASE move your diary into the Adult Genre as soon as possible. The Terms and Conditions will be updated such that adult diaries will be made immediately private if they are found outside of the Adult Genre. Please respect our policy on this. To change the Genre in which your diary is placed, login, click Customize then choose General Diary Option > Basic Settings. You will see the genre list. Adult is (at least at the moment) at the bottom. If you're NOT an adult diary reader, and you come across an adult diary that is not in the Adult Genre, please mail support@deardiary.net and let us know the user name or diary ID. We will move the diary manually as soon as possible. Before I sign off, I know this may be controversial, and I understand if people don't like the idea. Please feel free to express your opinions to us on the issue. I can't guarantee we will be able to please everyone that writes, but we will try where we can. Steve.   Addition to Adult Entries NOTE: (and note good) The sanctioning of adult diaries does NOT mean you may write about illegal (adult, or otherwise!) activities. Such activities as sexual acts with animals, or children ARE ILLEGAL, regardless. ILLEGAL writings will not be tolerated at all, regardless of where you put them. Just to make that clear. Indeed, we reserve the right to hand all details of your access to this site and any other information we hold about you to the relevant law enforcement agencies if you write about illegal sexual activities. To Bickmea, adult diaries are defined as anything in which, in published material, you would need to be over 18 to read or watch. Explicit sex scenes, excessive swearing (perhaps, though this seems to have relaxed a lot over the past few years!), horror writings which would require an 18 certificate. That kind of thing. Its a bit vague (very!) but basically if someone complains about an entry outside of the adult section that they believe should be in it, and we uphold that complaint, we will move the entire diary genre. I hate to be so vague but we're not the Board Of Film Classification here and we rely on peoples common sense to position things where they belong...   To DaveInBawlmer Your refund will be on its way, please provide the transaction ID which your subscription provided, or your email address that you used to pay, so that we may issue the refund. Your money is not wanted here. In case you need a clue, here it is. This is not about money you idiot. I could care less about the money. Its about keeping kids from STUMBLING across adult material. However, don't expect me to come visit you in jail for supply porn to minors. I might however be there to throw the switch when they uphold the charges. Bye Bye.   Ah, another can of worms it seems! OK. If you get an AdultVerifier account, you have access to ALL the diaries that are in the adult section. You do NOT need an adultverifier account to read or write your OWN diary. If you do, that is a BUG and we would've appreciated someone actually understanding that bugs happen and we like to fix them quickly. I'll look into that when I get a few seconds after quitting justifying myself! Also, subscribing to adultverifier gains you access to plenty of other sites which require proof of age, so the $20 is, if you like that sort of thing, pretty good value for money anyway. I'll now go find out if I have missed something with the adult verification, and apologies to all if I have, it was not intended to block access to your own diary! (Just what would be the point of that anyway?? You wrote the stuff, who you gonna prosecute if you're under age? Yourself? DUH!) Please (Dave, in particular) understand that when something new comes online, despite the fact that we work bloody hard to get it right, it DOESNT ALWAYS HAPPEN THAT WAY. Sometimes situations we didn't even think of come up, and since we didn't think of them we didn't test for them and congrats you may just have found a bug. Next time, if there is to be a next time, take the time to ASK US before shouting your mouth off and flinging stupid accusations.   Clarification Lets take these questions in comments one at a time; Bickmea - answered above DaveInBawlmer - I already deleted your diary and will return your money Franny - You need to use your own personal judgement really. If noone complains you're probably fine. If someone does complain about a specific entry we'll request you make it private until such time as we have a system to mark specific entries as adult. Most cuss words are not (these days) considered adult. Even those that Dave has used in his comment probably aren't. Though they're borderline if used too much. Franny again - If you have an AdultVerifier ID you can use it to access ANY and ALL adult diaries here, plus other 18+ sites. Its one payment. The Premium User is a seperate thing, purely because not all Premium Users are over 18 and because not all Premium Users WANT to read adult stuff. coolmom - exactly. Correct. To be honest, the adult category is there for diaries that are specifically INTENDED to be graphic. They know who they are! Atlas - If you must. But remember if its a public entry that could be used against you. The only thing we feel strongly enough about to actually actively report is any form of child exploitation. Franny (again!) - You DONT have to shell out EACH TIME you want to read an adult entry. Its a yearly fee, for which you receive a specific user id, which grants you access to all adult diaries for the year. As many times as you want, and thousands of other sites too. Check www.adultverifier.com for more details on exactly what you get for your money. Miraclewhip - I fail to see how any animal obsession can be considered anything but deviant. Its not allowed here even if its legal in the US AND even if the US considers it a breach of the First Amendment if we ban it! I think thats it. At least for now.
